Artistic Growth Incubator
Master the craft of music composition.
Move audiences.
Secure monthly performances.
About the program
Founded and let by Dr. Joseph Sowa, the Artistic Growth Incubator is a comprehensive online training program for emerging composers who want to grow their composing and career skills so that they can secure at least one new commission or performance every month—and do it with confidence.
You'll master the creative tools that harness the psychology of expectation—helping you write music that gives audiences goosebumps, gets stuck in their heads, and brings them back for more.
The Incubator expands on the traditional private composition studio model, combining the personalized attention of private instruction with structured group learning and professional recording opportunities.
Every month, you'll work directly with Dr. Sowa to master and apply specific tools for creative or career-building projects. Whether you're composing your first orchestra piece or seeking a string quartet commission, you'll follow a clear path that takes the anxiety out of composing and replaces it with flow.
The result? A growing portfolio of compelling music and regular opportunities to share it.
The program is designed as a full-year enrollment, with a minimum commitment of 3 months.
Past projects have included:
Creating pieces for orchestras, choirs, concert band, chamber groups, musical theatre, EDM, film scores, and other genres
Deepening technical skill in harmony, counterpoint, or orchestration
Recording new works with professional musicians
Sketching ideas for new compositions
Crafting the form and development of works in progress
Revising pieces to improve artistry and clean up notation
Securing a commission or the performance of a new work
and more!

How Does the Program Work?
Each quarter, you’ll set personalized creative or career-building goals with Dr. Sowa. All students meet with Dr. Sowa live on Zoom, and all sessions are recorded for rewatching later.
Each week, you’ll work toward those goals through tailored assignments, live workshops and masterclasses, pre-recorded trainings, accountability partners, and other learning activities, building your skills step by step.
The Artistic Growth Incubator requires 4–8 hours of work per week, between the workshops and your own composing. With structured learning and personalized guidance, you’ll build reliable creative habits and grow a portfolio of music you’re proud to share.
